Advancements in Processable Extreme-Temperature Thermosets for Aerospace Applications

Kaneka Aerospace will present recent innovations in extreme-temperature thermosetting materials engineered for demanding aerospace environments, emphasizing enhanced processability and thermal performance. Key developments include a room-temperature-processable filament winding resin with extended pot life and a high glass transition temperature (Tg) of 230 °C, and a bismaleimide hybrid resin that processes at 50 °C while offering thermal resistance up to 310 °C, and a cost-effective, non-phenolic ablative prepreg that cures void-free and delivers high-quality components. We will also introduce resins suitable for cryogenic applications that maintain high fracture strength below –250 °C. Additionally we present our latest developmental products which include a novel polyimide resin with a Tg exceeding 330 °C and exceptional thermal shock resistance and a modified benzoxazine formulation optimized for carbon–carbon composites with high char yield. Across these innovations, our research focuses on simplifying manufacturing by reducing resin viscosity, lowering cure temperatures, and shortening cure cycles without compromising the superior thermal and mechanical properties required for next-generation aerospace applications.
